The Maybach brand's legacy begins in the pre-war era, where it represented the pinnacle of automotive engineering, producing some of the world's most advanced, luxurious, and expensive vehicles. Car production, however, ceased in 1940. The name itself survived as a manufacturer of proprietary engines, eventually becoming MTU Friedrichshaven, until Daimler-Benz acquired the company in 1960. After nearly 50 years of dormancy, Daimler-Benz signaled the brand's revival in 1997 by presenting a luxury concept car at the Tokyo Motor Show, positioning Maybach to compete directly with rivals such as Rolls-Royce. The new era of Maybach began in 2002 with the launch of the Maybach 57 and 62 high-performance luxury sedans. The numerical designations corresponded to their approximate lengths in meters (5.7 and 6.2). Both models initially utilized a 5.5-liter twin-turbocharged V12 engine. An enhanced version, the 57 S ('Special'), debuted at the 2005 Geneva Motor Show. It featured a larger 6.0-liter V12 from the Mercedes-AMG division, producing 604 horsepower. The base price of €381,250 (approximately $417,402) reflected its exclusive performance status. Despite the quality of the vehicles, Maybach failed to establish the necessary brand identity to sustain its market position against Mercedes-Benz or the Rolls-Royce/Bentley competition. Due to disappointing sales, Daimler AG discontinued Maybach in August 2012. It was subsequently revived in November 2014 as an ultra-luxury sub-brand of Mercedes-Benz. The vehicle offered here is one of only 100 Maybach Zeppelin special editions produced globally across the 57 and 62 wheelbases. Introduced in 2009 at the Geneva Auto Show, the Zeppelin special editions honored the original top-of-the-line 1938 model. The modern Zeppelin featured special paint and trim but was most notable for housing the most powerful engine ever offered in a Maybach, surpassing the 57 S and 62 S models by 28 horsepower. This immense power came from a 5,980cc SOHC Twin Turbo V12 engine featuring Multi-Point Fuel Injection, generating 632 bhp at 5,100 rpm. The engine is paired with a 5-Speed Daimler-Benz 5-G Tronic Automatic Transmission, and the car features 4-Wheel Independent Suspension and is brought to a stop by 4-Wheel Ventilated Disc Brakes. The car was ordered new from Mercedes-Benz of Fort Lauderdale, arriving in the US on January 31, 2010. Original stock documents show the MSRP was $471,600 and confirm it was specified with special two-tone paintwork, exclusive leather, and numerous other options. A complete record of the build is on file. The vehicle's usage has been minimal. The clean CARFAX report indicates it had 98 miles at the time of delivery. It remained in the United States for seven months, covering only 9 miles before being exported. It was subsequently shipped to Baltimore and exported to the UAE for a decade, where an additional 471 miles were added. This brings the current odometer reading to a total of only miles from new.
