This 1985.1 Porsche 944 Roughroads is our 2025 Classic Restoration Challenge. The 1985.1 Porsche 944 Roughroads is a unique interpretation of the iconic front-engined transaxle coupe, purposefully adapted to tackle imperfect pavement, backroads, and rural terrain while preserving the engaging drive Porsche is known for. Based on the look of the 992 Dakar, this 1985 944 started out as a Kalahari Metallic gold color. We vinyl wrapped the exterior of the car to match the Dakar’s exterior. Off-road lights are mounted to the front bumper with daytime running lights, including new headlights that have the 4 LED “Porsche look” daytime running lights. We installed a 2 inch lift kit and mounted off road tires to finish off the “safari” style look. The original engine had a rod break, causing a hole in the engine block, so we replaced the engine with a used example that we re-sealed with a new timing belt kit. On the interior, we installed the Porsche Classic Radio (PCCM) with a dash mounted auxiliary screen. The auxiliary screen allows Apple Car Play and Android Auto to display off-road maps from a phone while playing music through the classic radio. It also includes a back-up camera. A full size spare wheel and tire next the off-road traction boards in the trunk finish off the interior. Be sure to watch our social media sites for some off-roading pictures soon!
