Dealer Description
Few cars of the 1990s embody American performance quite like the Corvette ZR-1, and the 1995 model year marked both its peak and its farewell. Nicknamed “King of the Hill,” the ZR-1 redefined expectations when it debuted in 1990, pairing a radical Lotus-engineered, Mercury Marine–built LT5 V8 with world-class Corvette chassis engineering. This example, one of only 448 built in the final year of production, is something rarer still: a virtually untouched survivor showing just 190 miles since new. Finished in Torch Red over Light Beige leather, it represents the ZR-1 in its most refined and collectible form. Outwardly, the ZR-1 set itself apart with subtle but purposeful changes over the standard Corvette. Wider rear fenders cover massive 315/35ZR17 tires, giving the car a muscular stance that still reads as exotic today. Square taillights, unique to the ZR-1, further distinguish it from base models, while this example's factory Torch Red finish presents as-new, having benefited from decades of careful storage rather than hard use. It also features the optional dual-roof package, providing both a body-color painted roof panel and a tinted acrylic roof panel for added versatility. It's a time capsule of mid-'90s American supercar design, preserved exactly as it left Bowling Green. The LT5 beneath the clamshell hood remains one of Chevrolet's most celebrated engineering achievements. Developed in collaboration with Lotus Engineering in England and built by Mercury Marine in Stillwater, Oklahoma, the all-aluminum, 32-valve V8 represented a radical departure from the traditional small-block. Displacing 5.7 liters and producing 405 horsepower with 385 lb-ft of torque, it gave the ZR-1 the ability to trade blows with Ferrari and Porsche while setting FIA-certified endurance benchmarks that redefined what a production car could achieve. In March 1990, a stock ZR-1 averaged nearly 176 mph for 24 consecutive hours, covering more than 4,200 miles and proving the LT5 could sustain supercar speeds with remarkable reliability. Exclusively paired with a German-built ZF S6-40 6-speed manual and a 3.45 Positraction rear axle, the drivetrain delivered both raw performance and long-legged civility. Supporting that power was a chassis tuned for balance and control. The ZR-1 retained the Corvette's fully independent suspension while adding wider track dimensions and adaptive technology. The standard FX3 Selective Ride Control system with Bilstein dampers allowed drivers to adjust suspension firmness on demand, while upgraded brakes featured 13-inch front rotors and 11.9-inch rear rotors. Backed by Bosch ABS II, the package delivered fade-resistant stopping power to match the ZR-1's extraordinary speed. Combined with the car's massive footprint and widebody design, these refinements made the ZR-1 not only brutally quick but also remarkably composed, whether attacking corners or covering miles at Autobahn pace. Inside, the ZR-1 carried the hallmarks of a top-tier Corvette. Light Beige leather sport seats provide both comfort and support, while the digital/analog hybrid gauge cluster reflects the cutting-edge vibe of the era. As with the rest of the car, the cabin is virtually untouched, its condition consistent with the odometer's barely three-digit reading. Power windows, air conditioning, and premium audio complete an interior designed to blend luxury with performance. With total production limited to just 6,939 units across six years, and only 448 in this final run, the ZR-1 was rare from day one. Add in its final-year status, original Torch Red finish, and scarcely believable 190 miles, and this car sits at the top tier of Corvette collectibility. More than just the last of the C4 ZR-1s, it is a benchmark example of the Corvette's rise to global supercar status, preserved with a level of originality that collectors spend years searching for.
