Became a Toyota family when I met my wife and we owned a 4th gen V8 4Runner and a 3rd gen Tacoma before going electric. Loved them both. We currently have a ‘22 Model Y Performance, ‘11 Sienna and the ‘22 R1T. So based off of my personal vehicle history, the R1T has been my favorite to drive/own. It’s an EV so the maintenance really is low compared to a gas/diesel vehicle. I’ve also been very fortunate to have never owned a lemon or a vehicle I couldn’t wait to get rid of. That said, 5 months of R1T ownership is too short to talk about long term reliability by any means. but so far, so good! It’s a new product from a new company so there are bound to be issues scattered amongst the tens of thousands of R1s produced. Some have had worse issues than others, but the company does seem to be doing its best to take care of their customers from what I’ve read/heard. We haven’t had any issues with our truck since day one. Because it’s a newer vehicle employing an abundance of technology, most things get better over time. Over The Air (OTA) updates have already vastly improved the driving experience and ownership with a slight increase in range, more app control, security, comfort, performance, convenience, and safety. Towing. Yeah, it’s obviously not a 1 ton dually with a reserve fuel tank. It’s a truck that runs on batteries. So don’t expect to tow your toys, boat, or super sweet travel trailer long distances without making way more stops. Will the R1T tow a huge travel trailer across the country? Yes it will! Is it convenient? No it’s not. The R1T is a great truck for our personal lifestyle and use case. It does everything we ask it to do effortlessly. We still smile pretty much everytime either one of us drives it because it’s just so much fun! We let our neighbor take it for a drive a month ago and he just told me they ordered one last weekend. I recommend doing your research on the specs and see if it (and EV ownership in general) fits your lifestyle. Our truck has been practically flawless so add that datapoint to your research. Nothing else compares.
